Postpartum: Days 1-7

Ok so normally we wouldn’t break the fourth trimester down into distinct periods like this. However, being products of our society, we find that a lot of parents find it useful to have some guidance over what to be doing, when!

Feel free to keep these 4 main focus areas throughout your early postpartum period & fourth trimester!

1. GETTING TO KNOW BABY
2. ESTABLISHING FEEDING
3. REST & RECOVER
4. NOURISHING FOOD

For this first week, we tend to suggest to parents that they remain (as much as possible) IN BED!

Think of it as a babymoon where you all just go to bed for a week.

This makes these focus areas way more easy to give your undivided attention to!

Notice what was missing from the list:

- hosting visitors
- handing baby over to said visitors
- housework of any kind
- getting out & about to show off your babe (although we appreciate this can be tempting).

There is evidenced correlations between gentler postpartum periods and greater; bonding, breast/chest feeding rates, emotional and physical well-being of parents.

Tell us - how did you spend the early days with your bubs? Why helped? What didn’t? Give us the tea! Drop us a comment over on www.instagram.com/new_birth_club

Don’t forget to share with your preggo pals. You can thank us later!
